The scariest thing about Poly-B is that it looks perfectly fine on the outside. However, municipal water treatment chemicals (like chlorine) slowly eat away at the inner walls of the plastic. Over time, the pipe becomes brittle, micro-fractures form, and it can suddenly burst or develop hidden, slow-dripping pinhole leaks behind your drywall.
Because Poly-B has such a notoriously high failure rate, major insurance companies are cracking down incredibly hard.
The Hard Truth: In today’s market, many insurance providers will completely refuse to insure a home that contains Poly-B piping. If they do offer coverage, your premiums will likely skyrocket, or they will completely exclude water damage from your policy.
This means if a Poly-B pipe bursts and floods your home, you could be left completely on your own, facing tens of thousands of dollars in repair bills out of pocket. Upgrading your plumbing isn't just about preventing a leak, It’s about protecting your financial safety net.
